Additional Details

This rare and famous photograph depicts the first glider ever designed and built by the Wright Brothers, known as The 1900 Glider, in flight.

With a loose, typed caption reading, "The Wright 1900 glider flying as a kite. See plate 14 - Diaries." A handwritten note on mount recto delineates a return address for the photograph, belonging to the controversial author of "The Wright Brothers: Fathers of Flight," John R. McMahon, about whom Orville Wright is noted as having said "He had no right to publish it. It was an unauthorized publication and is extremely inaccurate."
