Additional Details

An ever-popular story is told about Cobb in his later years. The famously cantankerous Detroit Tigers star was asked how well he would do against the star pitchers of the modern era. He thought for a few moments and replied that he might be able to hit about .300. The reporter was surprised, as Cobb had batted a record .367 over his long career. Cobb explained, "Well, you have to remember that I'm seventy-two years old!"
