On 6 May 1915, Boston''s rookie pitcher George Herman Ruth hit a home run while the Red Sox were visiting the New York Yankees at the Polo Grounds. It was the first of his 714 major league home runs. A week later, the Yankees sent the league''s share of the homestand gate receipts to the league offices in Chicago, and received this receipt in return.
