Additional Details

Proof before letters, signed by the engraver. Depicts the elaborate March 1778 reception at Versailles for the plainly-dressed Benjamin Franklin in the after the signing of the Treaty of Alliance. Queen Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI are seated at right. An attractive proof of a popular subject.

Provenance: in a circa 1930s frame by Mauk-Murray Studios of Providence, RI when acquired by the consignor in Rhode Island in the early 1980s.
