Additional Details

records the births of the first mayor of cincinnati, and the first president of texas. This Bible comes down from the Burnet family. The family register begins with William Burnet (1730-1791) and lists the births of his 14 children. Several of those children became early settlers of Cincinnati, most notably Isaac G. Burnet (1784-1856), who served as the city's first mayor from 1819 to 1831; and U.S. Senator Jacob Burnet (1770-1853), known as "father of the Ohio constitution." Also recorded are the birth and death of their younger brother David G. Burnet (1788-1870), who played an important role in Texan independence and served for several months as the first president of the Republic of Texas. The Bible was given by David G. Burnet to his sister Hannah Burnet Kinney of Newark, NJ (see lot 204), and the later entries record her immediate family through 1880. This edition not in Hills; similar to 152, but dated 1807 on the collective and Old Testament title pages, and issued without the 40 pages of metrical Psalms.
