Additional Details

First edition adapted for American use. The Isaac Watts version of the Psalms of David was one of the most frequently reprinted religious works of 18th-century England and its colonies. It was also distinctively English, with numerous references to the King and Britain. As the American Revolution drew to a close, a committee revised the Watts text for American use. This 1781 Mycall printing was the first.

Evans calls for a separately paginated section of 16 pages of engraved music, "A Select Number of Plain Tunes Adapted to Congregational Worship," to follow the Psalms index. It is not found here, nor is it found in the Princeton Theological Seminary Library copy scanned on the Internet Archive. ESTC treats it as a separate work and states of the Psalms that "Some copies have, additionally" the Plain Tunes. Evans 17098; Evans 17099.
