This finely produced set contains sample leaves from the 1743 first German Bible in America, the 1763 second edition, and the 1776 "Gun-Wad Bible" third edition which was famously scavenged by the British troops, on through other important or representative printings through the late 19th century. It is accompanied by an introductory pamphlet by University of Pennsylvania scholar Don Yoder with detailed bibliographical notes on each Bible, plus a separate German-language version of the same, "Die deutschsprachige Bibel in Amerika." The set was produced as a collaboration between the William Reese Company, the George S. MacManus Company, and collector Michael Zinman.
