Additional Details

a very early wanted poster for one of the best-known figures of the black radical movement of the 1960s and 70s. H. Rap Brown (b 1943), later Jamin Abdullah al-Amin, started out as a member of SNCC with Stokely Carmichael and other young student radicals. However Brown felt SNCC was too weak, and he joined the Panthers in 1968. After a speech in Cambridge Maryland in which he famously said "if America don't come 'round, we gonna burn it down," Brown was arrested, but fled. Accused of inciting to riot, and carrying a gun across state lines, Brown was put on the FBI's "Most Wanted" list. He then disappeared for nearly 18 months, but was arrested after a shootout with police in an attempted robbery in New York City. He served 5 years in Attica where he converted to Islam. He is presently serving a life sentence for killing two police officers in Georgia in 2000.
