(BLACK POWER.) Program for a convention of the Black Christian Nationalist Movement. [80] pages, 10¾ x 8¼ inches; light soiling and inked manuscript notes to outer pages, center sheet detached, a bit of rust at staples. [Detroit, MI, January 1972]

Additional Details

This national movement was founded and led by Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman (1911-2000), born Albert Cleage, with its spiritual center being the Shrine of the Black Madonna of the Pan African Orthodox Christian Church in Detroit. This combination conference program and yearbook does not have a full title page. We can trace no other copies for comparison, but it may be missing an outer wrapper. The first page gives the "Black Christian Nationalist Creed," followed by a portrait of Agyeman, and the "Black Christian Nationalist Manifesto." Also included are statements on the group's ideology and theology, many pictures of members, lists of supporters and officers, plus numerous advertisements from Detroit and beyond. The centerfold sheet is a program for the Second Biennial Convention of the Black Christian Nationalist Movement, held at the Shrine of the Black Madonna from 27 to 30 January 1972.
