The Black Liberators were founded in the summer of 1968. The first issue of their newspaper is headed with an article titled "St. Louis Again Shows its Contempt for Black Citizens," and also includes a plea for the release of Huey Newton, as well as a list of 10 beliefs and 5 objectives, a photograph of leader Charles Koen, and an article on "Black Liberator's Main Goal: Stop Hunky Cops from Killing Us." Issue #2 contains articles on visits by Adam Clayton Powell and Stokely Carmichael to St. Louis. No other examples traced at auction.
