first and only printing. a fine association copy, inscribed by bolivar to noted black minister francis j. grimke. Grimke (1850-1937) clergyman, civil rights advocate, author and diarist, the son of Henry Grimke, a white gentleman farmer, and one of his slaves. Published in a small number for friends of Bolivar as a birthday gift. Bolivar was a close friend of Arthur A. Schomburg; their correspondence is housed at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York.
