London: R. Havell Junr., 79 Newman Street, Oxford Street, [circa 1828-1830]

Additional Details

The print features five carnation blossoms labeled: "1 Penneys Queen"; "2 Davids Britannia"; "3 Lady Ackland"; "4 Stevens Waterloo"; "5 Turners George 4th". In 1830 the Gardener's Magazine took issue with Havell's depiction of the flowers: "[They are] beautifully executed; but so far unpleasing to a practical man, in that they are made all to spring from the same root. This may seem a trifling matter; but truth and nature ought not be violated, even on the most trifling occasion." This is the only mention of the print that we have found.
