(BOXCAR RIDERS) Group of 30 mugshots of "boxcar riders" arrested by the Michigan Central Railroad throughout the Midwest and Northeast. Includes men using colorful aliases, such as Speed Reed, Slim Long, or Saginaw Shorty, who were charged with indecent liberties, gambling, larceny, burglary, forgery, pickpocketing, assault with intent to murder, and "box car thief--meat;" their accomplices are also duly noted. Silver prints, most are diptychs, various sizes from 2 3/4x4 1/2 to 3x5 inches (7x11.4 to 7.6x12.7 cm.), stapled to card stock with "Michigan Central Railroad, Detroit, Michigan" printed on recto, and typewritten notations indicating the name of the criminal, their physical characterisitics, arresting officer, date, and nature of their crime on recto or verso. 1929-52
