Additional Details

Section VII of this report (pages 37 through 132) consists of a detailed report of the uprising of slaves on the island of Jamaica. Originally planned for Christmas Eve of 1822, the uprising was changed to December 18 to take advantage of the full moon. As with many slave uprisings, the plot was reported to his master by a slave and the plotters rounded up and tried. The testimony of the slaves involved is quite detailed and gives an exceptional first hand picture of slave life in Jamaica ten years prior to emancipation there.
