An extensive photographic archive containing 94 photographs relating to the Burley Tobacco industry in Lexington, Kentucky.
Featuring images throughout production, from growth and harvesting, to drying, packing, and distribution. With a humanist eye, the photographer has captured the daily lives of African American and migrant laborers in the trade, many of whom are harvesting the fields and packing the crop. There is also an emphasis on the storage of the plant, with numerous depictions of warehouses around Lexington, and interior views showing enormous stacks of the bundled leaves. Silver prints, the images measuring approximately 8x10 inches (20.3x25.4 cm.), some slightly smaller, many with detailed captions, in pencil or ink, and some typed, on verso. Circa 1910-20
