Additional Details

Burt Goldblatt (1924-2006) was a photographer, graphic designer, art director, and author. He worked mainly within the Jazz scene of New York City, often photographing at nightclubs and recording sessions. Goldblatt was also a prolific album designer, producing avant-garde artwork for numerous record labels including Bethlehem, Decca, Atlantic, and Jolly Roger. Many of the complex covers montaged Goldblatt's own photographs with overlays of dynamic color fields, X-rays, and expressive illustrations.

A number of the photographs present in this archive are reproduced in Goldblatt's seminal 1983 publication entitled Jazz Gallery One.
