Additional Details

"Do you mind suggesting to the printer or editor if needful that one sentence about Richard with all 'his misfortunes being richer than a millionaire because he had such a perfect wife' should be omitted. It's about 6 lines I think & it is very nice for me but I think it will draw down all the spite of the . . . burnt MSS people upon me once again as it is really very enthusiastic. . . ."
After her husband's death, Isabel Burton destroyed some of her husband's manuscripts, including a translation of the 15th-century Arabic work concerning sex, The Perfumed Garden, to the outrage of the writer's devotees. The biography she wrote of her husband, The Life of Captain Sir Richd F. Burton, was published by Chapman & Hall in 1893.
