A.G. Gaston (1892-1996) was an enormously successful African American businessman and civil rights advocate who played a significant role in de-segregating Birmingham, Alabama. He is pictured here with a class from one of several schools he founded. Another Civil Rights activist, Charles Billops is also in the photograph.
