GEORGE WHITE'S "WHITESBORO" (BUSINESS.) Map of lands at Whitesboro, N.J. Owned by Samuel H. Vick. Large "blueprint," 26x18 inches, showing plots of land in the area of Cape May. Matted and framed. (New Jersey), 1910

Additional Details

Whitesboro was the brainchild of George Henry White (1852-1918), lawyer, legislator, congressman, and racial spokesman. White headed the Colored American Equitable Industrial Association whose investors included Paul Laurence Dunbar and Booker T. Washington. White and his fellow entrepreneurs wanted to create a self-reliant community for blacks, without the overt discrimination of the southern states. The owner of the land in the present blueprint was Samuel H. Vick, an important figure in the Reconstruction politics of North Carolina.
