The policy holder Douglas Sylvester and his beneficiary Carrie Sylvester (his mother) were listed in the 1940 census in New Orleans as "negro." She was a cook in a private business, and he was a food peddler. For a weekly premium of 25 cents, his mother would receive $215 if he died.
