Additional Details

The Tiger Oil and Gas Corporation was founded by a group of black investors around 1937. In 1938 the company obtained a 160 acre lease near Oil City and began drilling. By the following year they had 16 wells working. Investors included F.W. Williams, Miss Martha McClinton, Dr. E.L. Dickson, Dr. R.T. Nelson, and a half dozen more prominent Shreveport businessmen and women. The photograph of the investors before their first well and that of the stockholders' meeting no doubt include these names. The Tiger Oil Company appears to be still in business in Shreveport.
