Additional Details

"Good Hair" was, and to some extent still remains, a determinative social strata. Straight or fine hair was considered "good," while coarse hair was not. Madam Walker's products also offered "clear skin," as opposed to uneven or blotchy complexions. These sheets were sent to newspapers for printing advertisements. They were for one or two uses, to be discarded once the heavy printing presses dulled the surfaces.
