first and only edition. Scott's Blue Book, was the continuation of a Chicago directory that began in 1916, when the first "Blue Book" appeared under the title of "Black's Blue Book for 1916." The "Blue Book" filled a need for Chicago's growing colored community following the exodus of blacks leaving the deep South in search of a new life. Black's first "Blue Book" contained 92 pages in 1916, and seems to have been issued until at least 1923. The present directory seems to be the only year of publication, possibly a victim of the Great Depression.
