Additional Details

Idlewild was a rural resort community founded in 1912 which became known as "The Black Eden of Michigan." This film is a 1979 edited version of original 1927 footage of Idlewild, with music added. The copyright was claimed by Benjamin C. Wilson and Edward Reed. Wilson was a professor at western Michigan University and published a related book, "The Rural Black Heritage Between Chicago and Detroit," in 1985. We have not determined whether this 1979 version of the film was ever screened or sold commercially, but it does not appear to be mass-produced.
