Additional Details

Woodland Park in northern Michigan was founded in 1921, inspired by the resort success of Idlewild fifteen miles to the north. This brochure promotes "the largest and most beautiful Summer Resort of our race," with deer herds and "much harmless wild-life throughout the country." It names the resort's founder and president Marion E. Auther, who died in 1944; and his wife Ella, who died in 1941. As taverns and WPA projects are mentioned, this brochure likely dates from the late 1930s. The 7 illustrations show a man and woman fishing, the Pine Cone Tavern, a large party arriving with suitcases, and more.
