"The only work on California published by the Dominicans"--Bancroft, History of the North Mexican States, page I:727. A descriptive work, with much on the Indians and the missionary activities of the Dominicans after the expulsion of the Jesuits. It also contains an important report on the dispute between the British and Spanish at Nootka Sound off Vancouver Island. It was mostly written at the San Miguel mission in the northern part of Baja California, and is alleged to have been suppressed by the Spanish censors.
