(CALIFORNIA.) Advertisement for the Railway Express Agency targeted at the Chinese community of the Sacramento area. Letterpress broadside, 11¼ x 7¾ inches; punch hole in upper margin, 3-inch fold, minor foxing. With typescript translation provided by consignor. Sacramento, CA, circa early 1930s

Additional Details

The Wells Fargo Express Company merged in 1918 to form what became the Railway Express Agency. This broadside was produced to inform the Chinese produce farmers of the Sacramento area about the services offered by the merged firm. The second line explains in parentheses "Same as Fargo Express." The table gives the prices for shipping various weights of fruit and vegetables from Sacramento to San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Chicago, New York, and other cities.

The company had an office at this Sacramento address from at least 1931 onward; their advertisements changed the spelling from Eye to I Street in 1936 and they used a different phone number after 1941.
