Additional Details

These photographs document the late 18th-century Franciscan missions of Alta California as they existed in the early 20th century. Some of the images are identified with inserted paper slips, including San Luis Rey, Santa Barbara, Capistrano, San Pala, San Diego, San Gabriel, and San Fernando. 4 of the mission photos are captioned in the negative, with one of them naming a photographer (Waite); one of San Buenaventura credited to William H. Fletcher by the California State Library; and an interior view of the same mission credited to Charles C. Pierce by UCLA.

Most of the other photographs in the album are of European buildings; 4 at the end show a group of art students.

With--3 photographs of San Xavier Mission laid in, 4 x 9½ inches, with inked stamps of Putnam & Valentine on verso.
