Additional Details

Britton & Rey printed a series of Gold Rush views intended for use as stationery. This one consists of four vignettes, including a scene of bedraggled miners shopping in a store with extortionate prices; miners trekking through the snow towards a creekside cabin; and horses struggling with muddy roads. This series was created "by artists on the spot . . . of utmost importance as Americana of one of our very important periods, of which there is small first-hand, authentic pictorial record"--Peters, America on Stone, page 112. Baird, California Letter Sheets 335.
