"The first foreign account of Spanish California, by a literate and observant French trader who visited most of the missions, presidios, and pueblos of Upper California and wrote the best contemporary account of the region"--Streeter sale IV:2472. The lithographs were done after Duhaut-Cilly's sketches; most depict California, including one of the iconic Mission San Luis Rey (illustrated) near San Diego.
