Additional Details

Andrew Putnam Hill (1853-1922) was a photographer who led the movement to preserve California's redwoods. He helped form the Sempervirens Club (an early land trust), and was instrumental in creating what is now Big Basin Redwoods State Park. These photographs depict the redwoods and logging scenes, some with the founders of the Sempervirens Club posing among massive trees.
