Additional Details

The nicely executed woodcut illustrations show miners at work using a variety of techniques, including a Chinese miner in traditional garb "rocking the cradle." Some are signed in the plate by Charles Nahl as artist and T.C. Boyd as engraver. The text describes 12 mining techniques, and adds a long list of colorful names for mining camps such as "Humbug Gulch," "Hell's Delight," and "Ragged Breeches Bar."
