Additional Details

Owens Lake in Inyo County (a few miles west of Death Valley) was a large body of water in the 19th century, covering more than a hundred square miles. It was famously drained by the diversion of its source waters into the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1913. This postcard was produced after 1904 (when the CYKO logo on verso was first used), and likely before the 1913 diversion. Photographer Andrew Alexander Forbes retired in 1916.

With the Forbes Studio business card, naming A.A. Forbes and Mary R. Forbes and adding in manuscript "Originators of El Camino Sierra Calendars," printed on verso of a small street view photograph captioned "West Line St., Bishop, Calif. 1283, Forbes," 2 x 4½ inches.
