". . . The speculation has turned out very well and they will something more than double their investment when it shall all be settled . . . He thinks he has seen enough of California to last a life-time . . . Bradford was at Sacramento had five or six hundred dollars worth of gold dust and said that he could dig a plenty more when the water fell but the labor was almost entirely suspended for the winter and the diggers were flocking to the cities by thousands . . . John and Richard are making a good deal of money buying gold dust and having it coined . . ."
