Additional Details

Presumably, this is a revised edition of the The Great Importance of Cape Breton first published in London in 1746, as it contains the identical map. First published under this title in 1755, this copy the second edition thus with the date altered. The map depicts Cape Breton, St. Lawrence Bay, part of Newfoundland and includes an inset of Louisbourg. By the admission of the anonymous author in the Preface, the work is chiefly derived from Charlevoix. Although the author has not been identified, it is possibly written by William Bollan or Sir William Pepperell. This edition not listed in any of the usual bibliographies of Canadiana. Sabin 10724 (1755 edition); Kershaw III:868 (showing the map from the 1746 edition).
