(CANADA.) Fownes, Caroline. Fownes family sampler. Needlepoint, 21 x 16 1/2 inches; minor wear with slight browning; folds and tack holes along margins. [St. Martins, NB?], 1830s

Additional Details

Stitched with the family register of William and Lydia Fownes, listing six children born from 1806 to 1823. The family lived in St. Martins, New Brunswick, on the Bay of Fundy coast east of Maine. Caroline Fownes Moran (1821-1857), fifth of the six children, started her own family in 1841, so she probably created this sampler in the 1830s. She was the grandmother of the famous dentist and showman Painless Parker. Also illustrated with alphabets and rural scenes.
