Additional Details

This volume records a wide variety of carpentry work, much of it building construction. The author charges for putting a glass light in the deck of a schooner (page 55), making a ploughshare (page 66), fixing up a school-room (page 82), repairing a sleigh (page 102), putting up a coffee mill (page 150), making window sashes (page 164), and much more. The volume is signed by James Hattie, who is listed as a house joiner of Guysborough in eastern Nova Scotia in the 1866 Nova Scotia directory. Among his customers was Sheriff William O. Heffernan, who later represented Guysborough in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. Many of his other customers appear in census records for Guysborough. The first 4 leaves are Hattie's alphabetical index to his customers.
