Additional Details

The quadruple-screw ship started her maiden voyage on 27 May 1931. In 1940 the ship was bombed and disabled by German airplanes and finally sunk two days later by a German submarine. At slightly over 42,000 tons, she was the largest allied liner lost during World War II.
