- Outlines Illustrative of the Journal of F A K (Fanny Anne Kemble). Printed blue paper title wrappers, 8 etched and engraved plates. 8vo, 9¼x6 inches; tears with some loss. Boston, 1835. With: a lithographed portrait of Miss Fanny Kemble by Edward Francis Lambert, 11x8½ inches, lightly age toned. Boston, 1830. British actress Fanny Kemble resided in the U.S. in the early 1830s and upon her return to England published a journal derisive of American culture and manners. Johnston's 8 plates are a rejoinder, keyed to her text, inviting those who possess a copy of her book to clip these caricature plates and attach them to those passages which are mocking towards Americans.
