(CARTES-DE-VISITE) confederate
Unusual framed group of 24 carte-de-visite portraits of mostly Confederate soldiers and southern civilians, a Gardner/Brady portrait of Abraham Lincoln, and one each of Jeb Davis, General "Stonewall" Jackson, and a young boy in uniform; with 15 depicting military men. Albumen prints, many with the sitter's name written on print or mount recto; in an original frame with a related newspaper article affixed to the reverse. Circa 1864

Additional Details

A newspaper article on the reverse of the frame details a story about Captain E. D. Warder, who is shown in this group of photographs, and his betrothed, Miss Dunham. Capt. Warder apparently sent Miss Dunham photographs of colleagues as mementos, which Miss Dunham stored in an album. Sadly, Capt. Warder was killed in the war, and the pictures were placed in this period frame.
