Located one block away from Brady's gallery, Lawrence was considered one of the premiere daguerreotypists on Broadway. His first career as a watchmaker was swept aside by the popularity and success of the photography business. His acclaimed allegorical study "Past, Present, and Future" won him a bronze medal at the Crystal Palace.
