A group of approximately 50 tintypes, including occupationals, a banner woman, firemen, a sea captain, beloved pets, sweet children, and more.
The group features two portraits of bearded men identified as firemen, both of whom are sporting brightly hand-colored coats, one with a "hook and ladder" emblem on his jacket; a chair with hand-tinting; a banner woman with her banner and decorated dress; and a man identified as a clipper ship captain trading in tea, wearing his "Oriental" clothing acquired in Asia. With six whole-plates, five are hand-colored, and including a striking hand-colored portrait of two children with the location "Osage" inscribed in the plate on recto and a name and notation in white ink and the date April 27 1847 and notation "Daughters of Lt. Grant Osage" inscribed on verso. There are seven quarter-plates, two in leather cases, one depicting a nude man; about 25 sixth-plates, several in leather cases, including occupationals, portraits, and a girl dressed as a fairy; four ninth-plates, three in mats and one in a leather case; and 15 gem-sized plates, including a little frog, a teacup, a cat, and portraits. 1860s-90s
