With 27 out of 29 images. This beautiful portfolio shows a diverse series of works by avant-garde photographers of the 1950s. Design by G. Mansolas, Ray Metzker and T. Rago. Photomechanical prints (26) and one silver print (by Harry Callahan), some photo-illustrations are mounted or on folded sheets, some have printed tissue or acetate overlays, and on various paper stock; some wear to the covers. 4to; an information bi-fold with essay by Aaron Siskind, list of contents, and credits page; contents loose as issued. FIRST EDITION.

The portfolio includes works by: Tom Rago, Michitaka Yoshioka, Rodney Hatanaka, Joseph Jachna, Art Sinsabaugh, Robert Knille, Kazimir Karpuszko, Charles Swedlund, Lyle Mayer, Richard Nickel, Ray Metzker, John Grzywacz, Martin R. Hurtig, Robert Stiegler, Aaron Siskind, George Mansolas, J. Lamensdorf and Harry Callahan.

Student Independent 2: Photographic Issue is a portfolio of prints created in 1957 from photographs taken by Institute of Design students and faculty. Work was dedicated to the memory of Frank Barr.

Student Independent 2 was published in a small run, possibly around 100. It was published in the Visual Design studio in the southeast corner of the Crown Hall basement.
