early printing of this rare toy book with "pictures by walter crane" on front wrapper. One of three titles illustrated by Crane that were issued anonymously that Christmas by Ward, Lock and Tyler and just prior to Crane's work with Edmund Evans for Routledge's New Sixpenny Toy Book Series. This "pretty new Alphabet" was based on the old English nursery rhyme.
