Included in the lot is a copy of the January 1948 issue of The Atlantic Monthly containing White''s article "Death of a Pig." It is a heart-rending account of how he failed to save the life of a sick pig that was intended for fattening for winter butchering. White set out in Charlotte''s Web to save his pig in retrospect, this time not from an unexpected illness but from its presumably fated "tragedy."
