Additional Details

first edition, warmly inscribed to novelist Robert Coates in the year of publication: "Bob and Boo, with love, Andy [E.B. White], (writer of tales and funny sayings), N. Brooklin, July 1970." Coates came to prominence in 1929 with the publication of his surrealist novel The Eater of Darkness, and later worked as a critic for The New Yorker, where White had been an editor since 1927. White eventually left New York for North Brooklin, Maine. Inscribed copies of White's books are scarce; this with an exceptionally fine association.
