Artfully compiled travel album containing 283 well-composed photographs of the Chinese landscape, people, and monuments by an accomplished amateur photographer.
With scenes depicticting landmarks and ornate buildings; studies of local inhabitants, workers and civilians; as well as various elaborate statues and sculptures and a curious image of a torpedo flying low above water. Also includes 6 panoramic landscapes. Silver prints, the images measuring 3 1/2x5 1/2 inches (8.9x14 cm.), and the reverse, mounted 5 per page recto/verso, 6 panoramas measuring 3 3/4x11 1/4 inches (8.9x28.6 cm.), and 2 hand-colored prints mounted to the front and back pastedowns measuring 7 1/2x12 inches (19.1x30.5 cm.). Additional Details

The album was apparently shot and compiled by a military photographer. In addition to touristic views it includes a remarkable image of a torpedo en route to its target as well as scenes of enampments, communication towers, and public executions.
