Additional Details

The Chinese Eastern Railway was constructed in Manchuria by the Russians in the late 19th Century as an extension of the Trans-Siberian Railroad. The Russians retained complete or partial control of the Railway through 1953, except for a brief period in the late 1920s when the Chinese seized control. The Russian influence along the route is evident in the Cyrillic signage that appears throughout these photographs.
