Additional Details

The recruiters "call upon all able-bodied men to come forward immediately and swell the ranks of the Union Army! . . . [R]ally in your strength! [The r]ebellion shall quail before you, and treason be crushed forever!" New Hampshire sent only two nine-month regiments to the front, the 15th and 16th New Hampshire Infantry. Both were recruited in Concord in October 1862. One of the recruiters, Barton Allan Ballou, served as a lieutenant in the 16th New Hampshire. We trace no other examples of this broadside at auction or in OCLC.
