SUSAN B. ANTHONY ON LYNCHING (CIVIL RIGHTS.) Anthony, Susan B. Autograph Letter Signed to Emily [Howland]. One page, 11 x 8 1/2 inches, original folds, on National American Woman Suffrage Association letterhead. Rochester, NY, 12 August 1902

Additional Details

The great suffragist leader attacks the Southern lynch mobs. In full: "Dear Emily: Well, when shall we see you this way. I think you must have an exciting week of it at Chautauqua, with Georgia's telling you there is no remedy but lynching for the crime of rape. Wouldn't they have a gay time of it if they lynched any white man through the south that raped a black woman? Or had a child by a colored woman. Well when you get ready come along. We shall be glad to see you with or without notice. Ever yours, Susan B. Anthony."
